“I want to show the world that you can heal from sexual abuse. I want the world to see that there are people who will listen and believe your story. I want the world to know this pain is real and happens more than people realize. There is hope. There is inner peace for all of us.”
– Tiffani Wampler on Why She Created her Blog, Living A Secret, 2009
WHY THE NEED FOR LAS?
Millions of people are being sexually abused every day, and wishing they had the tools and courage to come forth to end this horrible reality. However, too many people sit in fear and silence wondering when the light at the end of the tunnel will arrive. Unfortunately, there is no magic clock that can predict when you will wake up and feel confident that flashbacks and memories will no longer haunt your life.
The fact is that there is no sudden moment when you will wake up and feel as if you are a normal and healthy human being. Normally, it will take you years to recover from any abuse. If the the person who abused you was a father figure, then the road for healing will be longer. It will not be easy. There will be many dark moments, possibly even days where you will feel as if the weight of the world rests upon your shoulders. However, I can promise you there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You are completely capable of loving yourself and loving someone else. You are of able mind to feel. You have every right to feel the way you want to and no one can take that away. Do the work because in the end you will hug yourself and realize I AM OKAY!
LAS is here for any abuse victim, survivor or supporter. LAS will dedicate every effort to assisting those in need of support with getting the right support in a timely manner. Support may come in the form of other members, our volunteer “counseling” team, and outside resources, such as hotlines, agencies and books. LAS is dedicated to supporting every member live with their secret, and begin the long road to recovery once the truth is revealed.
